The Hearts in Mind Project
A GLOW Grant Funded Initiative Supporting the Perinatal Mental Health Needs of New Parents in North Jersey through Mental Health Services & Provider Training Programs
3 Approaches - 1 Mission
AWOH offers sliding scale and pro-bono services to women and children every day - but we wanted to expand our reach and our work to reduce the number of mothers and babies falling through the cracks - that's what lead us to apply for and receive a GLOW Grant through the NJMIHIA!
The funds of this program will allow us to do 3 things:
- Train more Providers in North Jersey Hospitals & Clinics to Improve Screening & Referral to Mental Health Supports for New Parents
- Offer No-Cost Services to Pregnant or Postpartum Mothers: up to 6 sessions of supportive counseling and therapy with trained perinatal clinicians, and provide resources & referrals for additional, long term support
- Offer No-Cost Support Groups & Workshops to Empower new parents with knowledge from experts
No-Cost Therapy for Moms In-Need
The Hearts in Mind Project provides up to six therapy sessions at no cost to pregnant and postpartum parents in Northern New Jersey who are facing financial barriers to care. Sessions are with clinicians trained specifically in perinatal mental health, and can be held in person at our Allendale or Oradell offices or virtually from anywhere in New Jersey.
Who it's for
Expecting parents and parents up to two years postpartum living in Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson, Union, Morris, Sussex, or Warren County. The program is designed for families who are uninsured or underinsured (including Medicaid), without out-of-network benefits, or on a high-deductible plan that makes therapy cost-prohibitive. We prioritize households with an income under $80,000, in recognition of the cost of living in our area.
What to expect
Care is short-term and focused — a place to be heard, to understand what you're experiencing, and to get practical support during one of the most demanding transitions of your life. Because sessions are time-limited, we begin connecting you with continued care options from the start, so you have somewhere to land when the program ends. Participants who attend at least three sessions are also eligible to receive care items such as diapers, wipes, or grocery gift cards, while supplies last.
How to get started
Because the program is grant-funded, spots are limited and enrollment is rolling — eligibility and availability are confirmed during a brief intake screening via the link below!
