Fun and accessible therapy for children and teens in NJ

Children and Teens require therapists who are able to tailor treatment in a way that feels accessible, not intimidating and even fun!

Our therapists incorporate a wide variety of techniques ranging from play therapy to the utilization of art, music, and evidence based modalities like cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy and solution-focused techniques to help your child or teen.

We serve children 6 years-old and up but will work with parents of younger children to address needs their children may have.

The age of consent for individual therapy with parental consent in NJ is 14. If your teen is aged 14+, their consent is also required for treatment. Teens at least 16 years of age are not required to obtain parental consent for mental health treatment in NJ.

Common questions about child and teen therapy

  • How do I know if my child or teen needs therapy?

Signs that your child might benefit from therapy include changes in mood or behavior, difficulties in school or with friends, withdrawal, or any significant change in their usual behavior.

  • What types of therapy are used with children and adolescents?

Common types include play therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), family therapy, and group therapy. The approach depends on the child's age, issues, and what they respond to best.

  • How can I prepare my child for their first therapy session?

Explain therapy in a simple, positive way, letting them know that the therapist's job is to help them feel better. Reassure them that it's a safe place to share their thoughts and feelings.

  • Will I be involved in my child or teen’s therapy?

Parent involvement varies depending on the therapy type and the child's age. Therapists often work with parents to provide guidance and support for handling challenges at home.

  • Is therapy confidential for teenagers?

Yes, therapy is confidential. However, therapists may encourage teens to share certain information with their parents, especially if it pertains to their safety or well-being.
